How to Curb the Bed Bugs Menace

Bed bugs in houses are a large problem for the residents. These little nasty pests thrive on the blood from warm blooded animals and if they can’t find a human victim they could go for a cat or dog as well. Pest control efforts should be carried out seriously if this problem is to be eliminated.

Travellers are usually accountable for transmission of bed bugs, and once these bugs find a new habitat they multiply on their own rapidly. They usually thrive in the gaps and cracks of beds, carpets and home furniture.

A common misconception about bed bugs is that they multiply because of lack of hygiene, but nothing can be farther from the truth. It must be remembered that blood and not waste is what attracts these bugs and therefore keeping the house spotlessly clean does little to fight bed bugs. But cleaner surroundings facilitate better spotting of these pests and thereby removing them becomes easier.

That bed bugs are too tiny to be visible without any visual aid is another myth. In fact, these creatures can be spotted without any difficulty, yet we usually don’t see them as they have flat bodies that help them disappear easily in narrow nooks of furniture or folds of fabric.

Bed bugs bite. They can survive long without feeding - up to 6 months or a year.

Bed bugs in homes are best taken care of by knowledgeable pest controllers, so it is prudent to engage the services of such experts. However, if you want to fight bed bugs on your own, the next best thing to do is to vigorously clean carpets, bed linen etc. in hot water and then allow them to be dried in the sun. It is necessary to seal all crevices in the walls and do away with furniture that has holes in it, so that these pests don’t get any place to multiply.
