Most issues concerned with your roofing deserve an immediate attention. A compromise on that front could prove costly for the strength of your roof. Problems such as leaks, broken shingles, cracked trusses, worn metal etc. need to be handled and fixed on the very onset.
One such roof issue is a broken or faulty roof truss. The trusses form the elemental fragments of the entire roof foundation.
The intensity of the assignment doesn’t call for a necessary involvement of a professional. Even a novice like you can undertake the task with ease. However, one requires the roofing tools and supplies to make the project successful. Besides the roofing tools, a proper guidance needs to be at your disposal throughout the life of the project. Formulate a course of action with him to start with.
Beforehand, construct a temporary base that prevents you from standing on your weak roof. Bring in some additional scrap boards and install them across the roof rafters. Check the strength of the temporary base by exerting some weight on it.
If it looks fine then climb on it and observe the broken truss. Note down the dimensions of the affected truss along with the length of the underlying lumber. If you face some problem while taking the measurements then avail the guidance of a roofer.
The broken truss needs to be realigned to restore the normality of the setup. To do so, patches would be installed on either side of the affected truss. Hence, cut out patches from the existing lumber of the roof. The dimensions of the patches must be in agreement with the measurements you took before. Allow one more person to hold the truss in place while you screw the patches.
The alignment of the truss must be in agreement with the rest of the truss pattern. An irregularity on that front would not render complete strength to your roof.
Let the setting rigidify in order to restore the normality of the roofing setup.
