The Panasonic Viera TX-P42G10 - One For Your Shortlist
January 14th, 2010
The blazing new Panasonic TX-P42G10 is among the first NeoPDP plasma tv sets you are able to purchase in the united kingdom. It proudly features a NeoPDP plasma screen that doubles the brightness output per watt used of every plasma cell. Putting it another way, the TX-P42G10 plasma HDTV from Panasonic will display the same level of brightness output when you compare it to its past generation predecessors, all while using barely only half the amount of power.
This means that it should not have problems getting brightness levels that are normally reserved for LCD televisions. Further aided by an onboard Freesat tuner and 600Hz Drive IFC Pro, the TX-P42G10’s quality picture stands out as well as other higher rated flat screen TVs that are out already.
The Panasonic TX-P42G10 does not have the thin chassis layout that is understandably left for their much more expensive line, but it is not bulky at all, it has a really thin glossy black framing bezel for the plasma screen. It also has a convex silver colored trim separating its logo from the curved bottom, and it sits on a shiny oval-shaped pedestal stand though it does not swivel.
The Panasonic TX-P42G10’s great quality speakers will spit out surprisingly loud volume and beefy bass without distorting, but falls a little short as you would think with the stereo imaging and audio resolution due to the speakers being hidden and pointing down.
The TX-P42G10’s high quality speakers will blow out really loud volume and punchy bass all without distorting, but it falls short as you could expect in the area audio resolution and stereo sound due to the speakers are hidden and pointing down to the floor.
Measurements have the input lag with game mode running at around 21ms faster than Samsungs F96 LCD television. Even when Game Mode was disabled, it toe to toe with the F96 no matter if the IFC was on or not.
The Panasonic TX-P42G10 was Panasonic’s first stab at gaining to the top spot among plasma TVs, and its black quality has gotten so pure that its comparable to high end LCD televisions, but this unit lacks a bit in analog reproduction.
This is Panasonic’s first try at getting to the top with great plasma TVs, its black quality has gotten so much better its to the point of high end lcd TVs, they are still behind pioneer in terms of correct color reproduction and standard-def video. Either way, if you wont look over Panasonic for leaving out controls for white balance and the TVs lower quality SD deinterlacing which is fixable by using a nice quality input source do it for you, it is an excellent value to cost thanks to its nice inky blacks, having great shadow details, nice natural colors, superb clarity of motion, hardly any input lag, and the onboard Freesat tuner, along with a wide viewing angle, and low power thirst, this is a nice television. The remote control that comes with it has large and clearly labeled buttons that give you nice touch feedback.
