Win32 Viruses - What Are They And Where Do They Come From?

As far as the least harmful of viruses go, Win32 Viruses fall into this category. They are Trojans, but do not have the dreadful reputation that many of these have. They are pretty old and will attach themselves to files in attempt to modify them. The outcome of this is that a fireworks display will burst onto the screen when you send an outgoing email.
This little bug first came to light in 2005 and when it come in on an ingoing email it shows as an. Exe file. The virus is activated when the. Exe file is opened, but it actually does no harm to your computer, and it also doesn’t harm you information. It is easily and simply removed manually by using anti-virus software.
Otherwise known as the HAPP99. EXE, this is one of the Win32 Trojans. It has an inoffensive enough harm and after all it only causes a fireworks display. It spreads really quickly by people who don’t know they are sending it and by the same token, it is highly unlikely you will know that you are sending it to someone else.
“SKA. EXE” is a copy of the virus and “SKA. DLL” is the modification file. This is the one that is going to modify one of your existing files. The existing file is “WSOCK32. DLL’ and after modification it becomes “WSOCK32. SKA” and it is this that allows the sneaky attachment of HAPPY99. EXE to invisibly attach to your outgoing emails.
This virus is sneaky, but it does not do the same kind of damage that other Trojans do. For example it will not destroy any programs or crash your computer, and it will also not steal any of your private information. However it is still not wise to have any virus on your computer and this one can overload a server. This happens if it attaches itself to too many emails consecutively.
There is also the probability that other viruses will attach to the Win32. This is when some real problems can be experienced. It happens easily as Win32 gets passed around a great deal without anyone knowing.
It is not a difficult task to remove this Trojan manually through DOS, so you don’t require any specific anti-virus tools. You will know if your computer is infected because of the telltale fireworks display going off when you send and outgoing mail. It is just a case of looking for it and isolating it. After all you wouldn’t like to be responsible for passing Win32 onto someone else’s PC.
Although Trojans like Win32 are supposed to be harmless they may still allow third parties access to your most sensitive information, so they must be gotten rid of. They almost always mutate, so better be safe than sorry.
