Samsung Behold The Amazing Touch Screen Phone

August 16th, 2009

by Oscar S. Cartwright

The Samsung Behold is one of T-Mobiles newest phones. It offers a great modern design with an amazing array of features. With its 3G network and easy to use interface the phone makes a great device for anyone in the market for a new phone. However the lack of Wi-Fi should be noted.

Available through T-Mobile, the Samsung Behold cell phone offers a really nice spectrum of amazing capabilities in a nearly palm sized package. The nicely responsive 3-inch touch-screen serves up 262,000 colors at a sharp 240×400 resolution. There is also a sensor which dims the screen when the phone is held to the ear when conversing, as well as an accelerometer which changes display orientation when the device is rotated. Below the screen are three of four hardware controls: talk, power (on/off), and backspace; a volume rocker is along the spine. The 5 megapixel camera lens is on the back, which, incidentally, is highly reflective and can even serve quite nicely as a handy little facial mirror. The same back of the device is also where the memory card slot resides, though behind the cover and under the battery therein.

The phone features the TouchWiz user interface. The operating system works extremely well and helps the user organize apps and widgets on the home screen with ease. The phone includes (but is not limited to) a music player, a full HTML web browser, clock, and a calculator. The address book has room for up to 2,000 entries and allows users to store different types of means of identification such as instant messaging nick names, birthdays, and personal websites. For game junkies the Samsung Behold comes with demos of Bejeweled and Sims 2 programmed in.

The phone is easy to use because the touch screen functions work very well. The touch screen commands quickly become second nature as you learn the various ways to navigate the phones brilliantly simple menu screens. There is a full QWERTY keyboard which is available when in landscape mode and it offers various shortcuts for different commands. One can also display an alphanumeric keypad for text messaging and number dialing. As stated earlier the phone features a 5 megapixel camera. The camera captures great looking images. There are numerous image capturing options such as 6 resolutions, auto focus, night shot and many more. Moreover the camera can also record video directly onto the phones memory card for quick sharing.

Also prominently featured is its 3G network. Browsing the web and downloading content will all be lightening fast on this phone. When it comes down to it this phone is all around a highly successful device with many great features and functions.

The Samsung Behold is one of T-Mobiles newest phones. It offers a great modern design with an amazing array of features. With its 3G network and easy to use interface the phone makes a great device for anyone in the market for a new phone. However the lack of Wi-Fi should be noted.

The Samsung Behold has a great design. It has an ultra modern look which is very popular among phones. Its touch screen is 3 inches (diagonally across) and it has a resolution of 240×400 which displays up to 262,000 colors. The display is very sharp, crisp, and vibrant. The phone features 2 sensors. One sensor automatically dims the phone when it is lifted to ones ear during a phone call. The other sensor an accelerometer switches the phones display to landscape mode when it is held horizontally. Keeping with the sleek motif there are only 3 buttons (Talk, End, and Back) and 1 switch (volume rocker) on the phone. The camera features a 5 megapixel camera and a highly reflective surface for self portraits. The phone can read memory cards but unfortunately the slot is located underneath the battery.

The Samsung Behold is truly easy to use, and not just due to its touch screen design but also because of the fact that the on-screen interface is just simply intuitive, with quite well thought-out menus. The QWERTY keyboard is presented in a landscape format, and there are dedicated punctuation keys and separate keyboards for symbols and numbers; an alphanumeric keypad mode is also available. But one of the most immediately obvious strongest points of the Samsung Behold is its quality 5-megapixel digital camera, capable of capturing photos in six different resolutions. In addition, there’s an adjustable ISO, a self-timer, auto focus, anti-shake, and various optimization settings for diverse shooting situations like night, action, and backlit. In camcorder mode the Samsung Behold takes video clips in 320×240 or 176×144 resolutions, and 180MB is available internally for storage, while a microSD card can add up to an additional 16GB.

Last but not least, another of the Samsung Behold’s strong points is its lightning-fast 3G signal (web pages come up in seconds), courtesy T-Mobile. All in all, this very smartphone-like cellphone offers the usual suite of features, with several of them exceptionally implemented.

Not Your Fathers Phone: The New BlackBerry Curve 8900

July 21st, 2009

by Allen F. Baker

For years BlackBerry phones have only appealed to one type of consumer. With their vast business applications BlackBerry phones have always been an invaluable tool to anyone working for a large company or in a business setting. With such a specific target audience BlackBerry phones needed a way to reach more people. The new RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 makes that possible. The Curve 8900 takes what BlackBerry phones have been good at and completely revamps it for a new younger media centered audience. This phone will make a great device for business people as well as anyone else looking for an amazing phone with media streaming functionalities.

The design of the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 is vastly improved from previous phones in the BlackBerry/Curve family. As of right now it is the slimmest phone featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. It is a nice change from bulky phones. The phone has a modern look, which is an improvement from the (almost) industrial and (very) conservative look of other BlackBerry phones. The phone was coated in very nice paints and finishes which not only make the phone presentable but also makes it extra durable. The screen on the Curve 8900 is a moderately sized but it supports a large range of colors that most phones cannot meet or surpass. Despite the small size of the phone (it is noticeably smaller than most BlackBerry phones) the keyboard is still very functional. They keys are spaced apart and are even raised above the phone unit, which gives them a nice tactile feel.

This phone has a wide variety of functions that make it useful for business people as well as enjoyable for casual users. For starters one doesnt need to download an application to open and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. A Curve 8900 user can do that right off that bat with the new DataViz program. Alternatively the phone features an improved web browser that supports full HTML. Wi-Fi is readily available and allows users to surf the web fairly quickly as well as stream movie and music. With the new web service users are even now able to watch YouTube clips from their BlackBerry. Unfortunately compared with other phones the web surfing is rather slow because of the phones lack of any 3G support.

The camera found on the Curve 8900 was clearly improved on. The Curve features a 3.2-megapixel lens which is vastly improved over the previous 2 megapixels found on other BlackBerry phones. The picture quality was good but be wary of taking photos in dark areas. The camera can even record video. Similarly the video quality was decent but it was rather grainy.

The phone performance was very good. There is no outside interference during calls, not even from a noisy environment. Also the speakerphone worked just as well. There was little to no distortion on the callers voice coming through the speaker.

The Curve 8900 is a great phone. Anyone who was interested in getting a BlackBerry but deterred away by the lack of media applications of previous phones should seriously consider the Curve 8900. The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 will please business people as well as everyone else too.

Finally A User Friendly BlackBerry: The Curve 8900

July 19th, 2009

For years BlackBerry phones have only appealed to one type of consumer. With their vast business applications BlackBerry phones have always been an invaluable tool to anyone working for a large company or in a business setting. With such a specific target audience BlackBerry phones needed a way to reach more people. The new RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 makes that possible. The Curve 8900 takes what BlackBerry phones have been good at and completely revamps it for a new younger media centered audience. This phone will make a great device for business people as well as anyone else looking for an amazing phone with media streaming functionalities.

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 has numerous design improvements over many other phones in the BlackBerry family. It is the thinnest phone to date featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. In a world of bulky full QWERTY phones the BlackBerry Curve 8900 is a very welcome addition. The phone was also designed with smooth edges and clean lines allowing it to fit neatly in ones pocket or hand. While the phone is made of plastic it is quite durable. The phone utilizes different paints and finishes to improve its durability. The phone looks better than previous BlackBerry curves as well. It was given a nice modern sleek look which will help it appeal to a wider audience (BlackBerrys are known to be popular among business men and women). The Curve 8900s screen supports 65,536 colors at a 480×360 resolution, which is an amazing display. The phones screen displays color with an extra level of brightness and sharpness that cant be beat by most phones. While the BlackBerry 8900 is smaller than most BlackBerry phones the keyboard is still easy to use. Despite its size typing is very simple. The keys are raised above the phone and feel very tactile. They are even backlit which make typing in the dark easy as well.

There are many features found on this phone that would still make it a great phone for any business person. The Curve 8900 comes with DataViz programmed into it. This application allows users to open and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Such a feature was available on previous phones but only by downloading an application for it first. One of the new features included is an improved web browser. It now supports full HTML which gives the user a better web surfing experience. Not only is it faster but one can also stream media like downloading music and movies. Not only that but you can watch YouTube clips as well. The Wi-Fi on the phone is a great improvement but the Curve 8900 could have used 3G support.

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 features a great camera. It is a 3.2 megapixel lens, which is a big step above the 2 megapixel cameras found on previous BlackBerry phones. The camera takes good picture but the camera didnt perform as well in dark and poorly lit areas. The camera also functions as a camcorder and can record video as well. Similarly the video clarity is equal to that of the pictures. But videos will appear a bit grainy.

The phone performed very well under various tests. The phones microphone does an adequate job of isolating ones voice and prevents any background noise from interrupting the call. The speakerphone worked well also. Callers will sound loud enough through the speakerphone.

BlackBerry has finally released a phone that the general public can enjoy. In the past BlackBerry phones have generally only been suitable for business people. But the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 is a phone everyone can enjoy.
