July 11th, 2009

by Christopher L. Grant

T-Mobile Dash was a very popular phone when it was released. It quickly became a favorite among users. With its nice design and great list of features it was a very versatile phone. But it was far from perfect. T-Mobile hoped to satisfy its customers with fixing some of the problems with the new T-Mobile Dash 3G.

The Dash 3G has a great look and feel. It is a more professional looking phone due to the soft finish along the backside of it. The phone appears unique among all other shiny metal finished phones. The phone is not too big and will fit neatly into ones pocket. One of the more notable drawbacks to the Dash 3G is the screens small size. The resolution is only 320×240; in the smartphone world that isnt much. You may see some stray pixels when viewing photos, videos, websites etc. One the plus side the trackball navigator is very easy to use and will make surfing the web really easy. It is a step up over the rudimentary d-pad found on a lot of phones out there. Also the full QWERTY keyboard is very comfortable to utilize. The keys arent cramped and small like on most smartphones. The Dash 3G features a very spacious keyboard which anyone with big hands and fingers which surely appreciate. The buttons are easy to read because they were printed using very vibrant colors and ink.

The Dash 3G comes with a wide list of features. One such feature allows users to link up their phones to any email or instant messaging service. After syncing up customers are able to receive phone alerts anytime he or she receives an email or instant message. Most notably the phone utilizes the 3G network. This allows users to download content and surf the web at lightening fast speeds, anyone phone with 3G is always a plus. Another sought after feature is GPS. The Dash 3G offers users more than one application for GPS but only using TeleNav Navigation will he or she be able to receive real time voice directions to their destination.

The camera found on the Dash 3G is really great. It is a 2 megapixel camera and takes nice looking photos for a camera phone. It is a big improvement over the mediocre 1.3 megapixel camera on the previous Dash. The camera has various presets and image control options allowing users to take very nice looking photographs. Surprisingly the Dash 3G is also able to record video. The video quality was admittedly OK but the video can be grainy if there is too much action happening in front of the camera.

The Dash 3G is a great upgrade for anyone who already owns the Dash. The Dash 3G is such an improvement on the Dash and offers users a lot more functions and features. Despite its small screen it is still a great phone many people can still utilize.

Stream Online Movies - Online Movie Streams

June 29th, 2009

by Chris Jensen

Movies and online videos have become increasingly popular with the emergence of handheld web cameras. Therefore, online movie streams have become popular as well.

Streaming refers to an immediate and instantaneous viewing capability of video feed that is happening in real time. The previous method of online video watching began with a lengthy download of a video file. Once the full file was downloaded, the viewer could enjoy the video in it’s entirety.

There are many uses for online movie streams. The main reasons are for viewing entertainment movie trailers or clips. Even popular music labels have been known to stream premieres of music videos for viewers online before television broadcasting. News programs are also prime candidates for video streaming for live news updates and news conferencing. Sports is another venue that has benefited from video streaming online.

It seems that online movie streams have not only infiltrated the entertainment world, but also business and education as well. Business meetings and video conferencing have become workplace norms. Also a newer option for all students within higher education is online classes. Online classes allow the benefit of streaming class lectures and videos for education purposes.

As technology continues to grow in capacity and ability, many more uses for online movie streams will become normal for tech users. It is important to also note that for streaming purposes a high bandwidth and the size of the video stream need to be considered. A higher bandwidth helps the stream to be clearer and less choppy, while not compressing a video can help the quality to remain pure.

Need An affordable Phone For Text Messaging?

June 20th, 2009

by Charles Moore

With the market full of complicated smartphones a person might have trouble trying to find an affordable phone with simple features. Not everyone plans to use their phone to surf the web, watch videos, or even check their stock. Some people want a simple phone for talking and messaging. That phone has finally arrived. The Samsung SGH-A177 phone lacks many of the features of other big name phones, but with its focus on typing and comfortable keyboard it will make a great phone for any text and IM junky.

The Samsung SGH-A177 is one of the simplest phones to be released in the past couple of months. Most phones are either a flip phone or a slider. The Samsung SGH-A177 is neither it is a simple rectangular phone. Many tech junkies might be put off by this while others might embrace the simplicity in its design. Unfortunately the phone was made almost too simple. The plastic shell around the phone doesn’t feel very strong. Anyone who is prone to dropping phones should be careful, or at least purchase a rubber skin case along with this phone. Also the screen on this phone is very small. Photos and games wont look as good as what we are obviously used to. If you don’t plan on taking much pictures than the screens display is negligible. One of the best features on this phone is its full QWERTY keyboard which was obviously designed for comfort. They keys are slightly raised which is a very big plus as most phone users cant stand flush keys. Also the keys make an audible click noise when you press them while typing. This phone was obviously designed with text junkies in mind.

This phone clearly lacks any of the features found on many of the heavy weight phones out there. The phone does come with a camera, instant message capabilities, and even Bluetooth. For some people this is all that they might need. The IM function and Bluetooth work well but the images captured on the camera are mediocre at best. Along with not being able to record any video the camera seems like an afterthought.

The microphone installed in the phone needs definite improvement. If you are in a high traffic or loud noise area the microphone will pick it up and the caller on the other end will have trouble understanding you. Additionally the speakerphone is just atrocious. The other caller will sound very low and if the volume is increased to over compensate the caller will sound very distorted and garbled.

The Samsung SGH-A177 clearly is not a phone for everyone. If you wont miss watching videos, and surfing the web then consider buying this phone. But be cautious because the phones call performance is not that great.

A Review of the Samsung Eternity A867 Plus

June 19th, 2009

by Derek Hughes

All of those people who were hoping to get their hot little hands on the Samsung Eternity A867 on November 4, 2008, were greatly disappointed as AT&T could not deliver the new handset on that date. As soon as their shipment arrives, the Samsung Eternity will be sold. If you want to purchase the Samsung Eternity A867 for the features it has, it will be well worth the wait. The features of this cell phone include the following:

Simply, this is a wonderful little handset with a lot of neat features. So, it’s probably going to be worth the wait. Some of its best features include:

The new handset will soon be available for purchase on the AT&T carrier. It will cost $99 but that is after you receive a $50 mail-in rebate. This cell phone is able to be customized with specially designed widgets. The Samsung Eternity has a large 3.2″ touch screen that has haptic support and this phone provides subtle vibration that confirms selections. The only drawback to the Samsung Eternity is that it features a black and chrome exterior. The only trouble with black is that it will show all the smudges.

At first glance, this cell phone looks really clean and nice. The back of the cell phone has a brushed metal feel although it is nothing but a plastic back cover. The camera does not have a portrait or flash meter, which is a bit on the disappointing side. The Samsung Eternity has a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the side so it was definitely made for music.

First impressions of the Samsung Eternity A867 Plus? When you first look at it, the Samsung Eternity A867 Plus looks really nice and clean, with the back of the phone having a “brushed metal” texture. However, it’s not really brushed metal, but a plastic cover. The camera that’s included does not have a flash or portrait meter, which may be disappointing to you. It does have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, so you can definitely listen to your music.

Touch Wiz UI feature The Samsung Eternity A867 Plus also has a great feature, the Touch Wiz UI. It doesn’t have many widgets at present, but Samsung will be releasing more of them in the fall, reports say. One of the easiest to access is the “sound profile” widget, which has a calculator and a profiles widget that goes with Bluetooth. The menu for Bluetooth is very easy to use. The regular menu contains Address Book, AT&T GPS, Messaging, My Stuff, and YellowPages, among other things.

Keyboard and messaging This cell phone can use MMS, AIM, Yahoo!, SMS, IM, and MSN. It does helphave mobile e-mail, but right now, it’s limited to POP3 basic providers. The T9 feature is included on the nice and roomy keyboard, but it’s very inaccurate. A regular number pad is also available on the phone for handwriting recognition and texting.

Is it worth it? The Samsung Eternity A867 Plus is most definitely a great option for those who want the latest entertainment and full options for touch technology, with sleek and stylish sophistication. If you want not just immediate access to the Internet but also the very latest in entertainment, you’re going to like the top 3G/HSDPA device. The cell phone has an accelerometer on board and a keyboard that’s a full touch QWERTY setup; it has vibration responsiveness and a 3.2-inch display that’s very crisp and makes web surfing almost as much fun as doing it on your traditional laptop or desktop — away from home and with something that slips into your pocket. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll definitely like this handset.
